Getting Started
My Background
My Background I attended yoga classes for many years with different teachers who taught different styles of yoga. I started to study yoga more deeply in 2002 and began teaching in 2003. Through 7 years of part time study with Paul Harvey I am a qualified yoga teacher registered with the British Wheel of Yoga (which is the Sports’ Council’s recognised national yoga body in Britain). Paul Harvey’s long course, has given me a basis on which to teach classes and to work therapeutically through yoga with individuals. I have recently registered with the newly set up Complementary u0026#038; Natural Health Care Council a Government recognised body which registers natural health care practitioners following the development of a set of guidelines for minimum levels of training etc. Yoga Therapy was one of the first therapies to be accepted. Since 2002, I have practised yoga regularly on my own under the guidance of an individual teacher. This self practice is central to the development of my own teaching and understanding of yoga. My aim is to teach for increased suppleness, strength and stamina of the body and to help calm and steady the mind. Working the body with the breath isu0026hellip;
About Yoga
About Yoga In yoga we work to get to a state of concentration through intense physical and mental effort. It can be seen as an art and a fascinating and helpful pursuit for many people. Yoga can also be used to help work with the effects of problems and illnesses. In this way it can be seen as therapy. Underlying everything is the idea of yoga as self-enquiry. Yoga can be used as a tool for understanding more of our deeper patterns by enquiring into and beyond the everyday self. This can allow our actions or especially re-actions to be less influenced by our more usual patterns and their history. These three aspects of Yoga are mutually supportive in helping to maintain vitality, health and purpose within the commitment and challenges of life today.
